Title cpd. of formula (I): is prepd. by (a) condensing acetone with 5-nitrofurfuralde-hyde in molar ratio 1:2 with ZnCl2 as condensing agent, in a solvent (esp. an alcohol ether or ether-alcohol e.g. ethylene or propylene glycols or their mono- or di-methyl ethers esp. 2-methoxyethanol) under weakly acid conditions; then (b) reacting the intermediate condensation product, in the same medium and without isolation, with an aminoguanidine sa and (c) pptg. (I) by addition of HCl. (I) is an antibacterial used as a feed additive (5-10 ppm) for poultry to increase efficiency of feed conversion.
