Uranium alloy casting for use in a nuclear reactor operating on natural uranium contains (1) =96 wt. % uranium; (2) molybdenum, chromium, iron, silicon and/or germanium, and (3) 5-2000 ppm. beryllium. The casting is prepd. by casting the alloy in a hot mould, and then cooling the cast alloy in the mould, the cooling rate between 850-650 degrees C. being 15-80 degrees C/min. Gives castings with an esp. good, fine-grained structure, and a good resistance to deformation. The castings are free of defects such as cavities, and are produced without an heat treatment stage.
