1328037 Cis-zearalenone and cis-zearalenol COMMERCIAL SOLVENTS CORP 24 Nov 1971 [1 March 1971] 54535/71 Heading C2C Novel compounds of Formula (I) in which Z is CO or CHOH, are prepared by irradiating trans-zearalenone or trans-zearalenol with radiation of between 2800 and 3500 Š, preferably in a monohydric C 1-3 alkanol solvent and in an atmosphere of an inert gas. Ciszearalenol may be prepared by selectively reducing cis-zearalenone preferably with sodium borohydride, at 15‹ to 45‹ C. in methanol. Each diastereoisomeric form of cis-zearalenol may be prepared by irradiation of the corresponding trans-zearalenol isomer. The compounds of Formula (I) have growth promoting properties and with a nutritional diluent comprise an animal feed which may be administered orally, parenterally or by implant.
