A rack assembly, e.g. for telecommunications relay equipment, comprises a suspension unit 10 (Fig. 4) with rails 19 (Fig. 4 or 5) which mate with runners 19a on the top of a component tray 1. Each component tray or housing 1, 3, 6 has runners on top and bottom so that respective runners can be slid into one another thereby forming a vertical series arrangement of housing units. A bottom unit 9, which may be a mains connection unit, has upper runners only. When the housing units are slid into position electrical connections are made between units via plug strip (13a) and socket strip (13), Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), mounted at the top and bottom respectively of each housing unit between respective runners. Fig. 5 shows a suspension device or unit for a component housing having a waveguide connection point 65 which extends out at the top rear of the housing unit. Plug and socket connections (not shown) may be provided in the space around the waveguide flange 63. Jack plugs and flexible cables may be provided to interconnect units which are not adjacent. The component housings, for instance transmitter unit 1, may contain additional runners to receive sliding components 41, 42, 43, 44.
