1429451 Adhesive tapes CELLOPLAST AB 3 Jan 1974 [10 Jan 1973] 00292/74 Heading B2E A pressure-sensitive adhesive tape comprises a stretched or non-stretched synthetic resin substrate having an adhesive coating thereon, the substrate material being provided with parallel scores in a direction running transversely with respect to the longitudinal direction of the tape. Transversely is defined as being not more than 30‹ from the perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. Preferably the scores are on only the same side of the substrate, the adhesive agent being applied on the same side as the scores. The scores may have a depth of 2-5 microns and preferably at least one per millimetre and up to 10 scores per millimetre are present. The scores can be made by passing a scoring tool on the substrate the scoring being carried out while the tape is being advanced in a longitudinal direction, the speed of the tool being related to the longitudinal advance of the tape so that the scores are made substantially at right angles. A suitable method of scoring comprises passing an abrasive band rapidly across the web.
