1388198 Antibiotic FR-1923 FUJISAWA PHARMACEUTICAL CO Ltd 18 Aug 1972 [31 Aug 1971] 38586/72 Heading C2A A new antibiotic designated "FR-1923" is isolated as a white, crystalline, amphoteric solid from aerobic cultures of an organism of the species Nocardia uniformis in a nutrient medium containing sources of assimilable carbon, nitrogen and inorganic salts. The preferred organism is Nocardia uniformis var. tsuyamanensis ATCC 21806. Isolation is by conventional procedures from the filtered broth. The antibiotic forms a sodium salt (also claimed) which may readily be converted to the free compound, e.g. by treatment with an acid. Pharmaceutical compositions in conventional forms for oral, parenteral and local application may be produced comprising the antibiotic and/or its salts and conventional pharmaceutical carriers and excipients.
