1507015 Disc mills DEFIBRATOR AB 30 March 1976 [7 April 1975] 12750/76 Heading B2A A mill and particularly a disc mill which comprises a pair of grinding members or discs 22, 24 at least one 22 of which is rotatable and exerts axial pressure on material in the space between the discs by means of a known servo - motor system 44, includes at least two portions of one disc 24 insulated from each other and from the rest of the mill and connected to the poles of a current source 104. The current flowing thus depends on the conductivity of the material bridging the two portions and thus the distance apart of the two discs. Direct contact between the disc produces a short circuit. A control screw 94 for the servomotor is driven by a motor 98 in response to current charges and the system can thus maintain a desired refining gap. Insulation is effected e.g. by use of an insulating plastics packing behind the disc 24 or by use of individually insulated disc segments Fig. 3 (not shown).
