1459508 Opening ends of tubular bag sections GARTEMANN & HOLLMANN GmbH 20 Feb 1974 [24 Feb 1973] 7686/74 Heading B5D A device for opening the end of a flat tubular member 1 comprises two arms 2 which are fixed to respective rotatable shafts 4 and which carry suction heads 3, and two tools 10 which are rotatable with and about respective arms 2. Each tool 10 extends spirally about the associated arm 2 and is fixed to a respective bevel wheel 8 which is freely rotatable about the arm 2. Stationary bevel wheels 7 which are fixed to the machine frame 6, engage the bevel wheels 8. In operation, when the suction heads 3 are in the position shown in Fig. 1, they grip opposed sides of the tubular member 1 and slightly open the end thereof. Almost simultaneously with this opening operation, the free ends of the tools 10 enter the partially opened end of the tubular member, and rotation of the tools 10 about their associated axis 2 then fully opens said end. The opened end is formed into a block bottom.
