Diurethanes of the formula IMAGE selectively damage or destroy weeds in crops of carrots, cotton, peanuts, and rice without damaging the crop plants when R1 is methyl or ethyl; R2 is propyl, butyl, isobutyl, or benzyl; R3 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, methoxy, or methylmercapto; and X is oxygen or sulfur.
