1480824 Attaching lids to kitchen utensils SEB SA 16 July 1974 [31 July 1973] 31542/74 Heading A4A [Also in Division E2] A lid 1 is hinged on a kitchen utensil 2 by means of an element 3 on the lid 1 pivotably attached to an element 5 secured to the utensil body, one of the elements, 3, comprising at least one pivot 4 engaging a slot formed in the other element, 5, at least one resilient means 8 being provided which means can be retracted under pressure by the pivot 4 to permit snap engagement of the pivot into or out of the slot and which, in one position, at least partly blocks the slot inlet 7a. The resilient means 8, a spring, has two loops 9, 10 of opposite senses, one, 9, co-operating with the stationary part of the spring which is secured to the slotted element 5, the other, 10, ensuring that the movable end of the spring is flexible. The spring's curved, stationary part is held in a recess (7c) Fig. 2 (not shown) formed in element 5, which is a handle of the utensil, the spring being gripped by the utensil body 2. The free end of the spring 8 retains pivot 4 at the bottom of the slot 7 which is formed in a lug 6 of the handle, 5, the handle 5 and jointing element 3 being of moulded plastics material. When the lid is fully open, (1A) Fig 4 (not shown), element 3 is slightly inclined to the vertical, limiting the movement of pivot 4 from slot 7. The lid may be detached from the utensil by moving in a direction towards the utensil's centre after retracting the spring 8. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the stationary end of a spring (18) fits into a slot (15a) in a handle (15). Alternatively, in Fig. 7, (not shown), a spring (28) again has two loops, loop, (30) locking the pivot 4 at the bottom of the slot 7. Again, in Fig. 8 (not shown) a spring (38) has a stop rib, surrounds a lug 6 on the element 5 and extends into a slot (6a) therein.
