1498019 Cyclic phosphonates CIBA-GEIGY AG 2 Dec 1974 [3 Dec 1973] 52012/74 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3 and C5] The invention comprises compounds of formulae wherein RSP1/SP (in Formulae I-III) is C 1-8 alkyl; RSP1/SP (in Formula V) is C 4-8 tert-alkyl; RSP2/SP is C 4-8 tert-alkyl; RSP3/SP and RSP4/SP are each H or C 1-12 alkyl; each RSP5/SP independently is H, phenyl or C 1-8 alkyl; RSP6/SP is phenyl or C 1-8 alkyl; or RSP5/SP and RSP6/SP in Formula II together represent tetramethylene; RSP7/SP is C 1-4 alkyl; and RSP8/SP is phenyl, C 1-8 alkyl or (C 1-4 alkyl)-phenyl. Preparation of the above compounds is from compounds of formula (where Ar is substituted phenyl as in the above formulae; and RSP13/SP and RSP14/SP are each Cl, Br, O-(alkali metal), alkoxy, phenoxy or alkylphenoxy) by condensation with appropriate di-, tri- or tetra-hydroxy or di- or tetra-halo compounds. The inventive compounds are used as antioxidants and heat stabilizers for polymers, lubricants, animal and vegetable oils &c.
