High quality fleece mata comprising fusion/blown polymer fibres, particularly polypropylene fibres, are produced by the high-velocity extrusion of fibre-forming thermoplastic resin in a molten state, through openings in a heated nozzle, into a stream of hot inert gas which draws the molten resin into a cluster of fibres which are collected in a receptacle along the path of the fibre stream to form a fleece mat. This is done by keeping values and parameters of the following within critical limits in the extrusion of the resin; Polymer resin flow velocity, viscosity of the polymer at specific speeds gradients, processing temps. and gas flow velocities.
