Stable textile finishing compsns. contain by wt. (a) 5-80 % of =1 textile finishing agent, (b) 15-90 % halogenated hydrocarbon, (c) 5-40% moisture-retainer and (d) 0.3-80 % thickener and are pref. used in prepn. of organic baths, esp. on C2Cl4 basis, for continuous treatment of textiles. Used for the continuous finishing or optical brightening in dry-cleaning machines, dyeing textiles and pre-treatment of printing substrates. Compsns. attack neither machinery nor substrates, cause no pollution are easy to handle and resist storage for several months at -5 to +45 degrees C. Components are easily dissolved, dispersed or emulsified. Pref. (a) are optical brighteners, finishes e.g. delustering agents, fungicides, bactericides, water-repellants, sizes, antistatics, softener, and/or dyes and (b) are pref. chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons esp. C2Cl4, C2HCl3 or CC13CH3. Thickeners are esp. cellulose dervis. e.g. acetyl or Et cellulose or an ammonium salt of cellulose sulphate. Moisture retainers may be glycols phthalates, ethoxylated alkylphenyl derivs. or fatty alcohols, alkylated urea derivs. or block copolymers of C2H4O and C3H6O.
