Adjusting device for the flame height of a lighter gas fire

In a gas lighter a disc of elastic material 14 is disposed below a porous throttle 11 so that the gas regulating properties of the throttle are flattened. The throttle and valve assembly of the lighter are situated in a pot-shaped casing 2 formed in an upper part of the gas reservoir 1 and comprise a screw member 4, used to adjust the pressure on the throttle and hence vary the flame height, and a hollow valve stem 5 spring loaded within the member 4 which at its lower end has a plug 6 bearing against a cup-shaped valve disc 8 having an opening 9. Beneath the valve disc is situated the throttle 11 and below this a rigid gas impermeable disc 12 and the gas permeable elastic disc 14 which rest on a flange 13 surrounding a gas inlet opening 16 at the bottom of the casting 2. A sealing ring 10 prevents escape of gas through the screw thread 3. In a modification. Fig. 2 (not shown), an impermeable elastic disc 30 having gas passages 31 is situated below the throttle 11 and the downwardly extending edge 33 of the valve disc 28 prevents escape of gas around the edges of the disc. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 (not shown) the gas impermeable, elastic disc 42 has the form of a cup with upstanding edges 41 and the throttle 11 lies within the cup beneath a cupshaped valve disc 38. The gas passes to the valve stem 35 via a toothed collar 36. The gas impermeable elastic discs may be made of extruded plastics material.
