The cable is of constant active length and causes the carriage and bead carrier to move in opposite directions to one another. The feed movement of the carriage or carrier is controlled by a stepping mechanism which is attached to one or the other part and consists of a pawl which interacts with an edge-toothed bar. The carriage and carrier are driven via a shaft which is constantly subjected to a clockwise acting torque by a spiral spring. This causes the carrier cable to be coiled onto the drum so that the carrier is pulled to the left. This movement is transmitted to the carriage by a carriage cables.
