The lathe has a longitudinal and a cross-slide on which a tool holder is mounted. The tool holder can be brought within reach of a circular rotating tool store, which is mounted next to the lathe so that it can interchange its tool with one from the store. The storage spaces for the tools are located near the circumference of the tool store. The tools consist of a shaft in which the cutter is mounted and a tapered section. A shouldered part separates shaft and taper. The shoulder is provided with notches. When the tool is mounted in the tool store, a locking arrangement which engages with these notches, is released when the tool is to be removed from the store.
