A cylindrical device for sharpening the points of pencils etc. consists of two halves in the lower half of which an abrasive band is held against the side wall by blocks and screws. An adjustable arm allows the angle of contact of the tip to be sharpened to be varied against the abrasive paper to produce different tip profiles. A cleaning brush is attached to the central spindle and any adhering particles may be cleaned off the tip before use. Means are also provided to adjust the length of the pencil to a pre-determined dimension.
