Moistening of the walls of coal mines with hygroscopic salt soln. opt. contg. a wetting agent to prevent dusting is improved by alternatingly applying a conc. soln. of a hygroscopic salt contg. a wetting agent and water in an amt. reqd. to ultimately form a soln. of the predetermined concn. Prepn. of dil. solns. in large tanks outside the mine is avoided, as water is mixed with concn. solns. in holes in the mine. The method is suitable for large scale application.
