Pressurised water reactor and steam raising unit - with inter connecting primary circuit pipe internally partitioned for dual function of flow and return

Reactor plant layout partic. applicable to pressurised water reactors in which the primary circuit interconnecting pipe between the reactor vessel and steam raising unit is a single pipe internally partitioned by a curved welded plate enabling it to be used for the dual function of primary fluid supply and return. The partition plate curvature is selected to be between two and four times the radius of the interconnecting pipe to accommodate thermal stresses and primary differential press. Flow from the reactor is routed through the upper compartment against the convex face of the partition and is constrained to flow through the inlet chamber and U-tube bundle of the steam raising unit-returning to the suction chamber and inlet of the integrally mounted circulating pump at the base of the unit. The pump discharges the coolant through the lower interconnecting pipe compartment to the reactor vessel.
