The trunnion pins which are used to impart elevation movement to the gun rotate within the internal ring of the tilting bearing. The outside ring of this bearing is integral with the armoured turret which rotates in the horizontal plane. The rotating inner ring of the tilting bearing has an extension housing which has an opening. The front end of this opening is closed and it carries a cylindrical extension, rotating in a bearing in the turret and supported in the axial and radial directions. The box-shaped extension ensures that the recoil forces caused by the recoil brake are not taken up entirely by the tilting bearing. The extension is pot-shaped, or it may be a box profile, open downwards.
