Charging device for shaft furnaces, esp. blast furnaces - using two bells operated by separate hydraulic cylinders

The charging device, for a blast furnace, consists of two bells and hoppers, one located above the other in a housing on top of the blast furnace throat. The lower bell is raised and lowered by a rod running in the bore of a tube which is also raised and lowered to operate the upper bell, and between the rod the tube is a stationary intermediate tube, the top of which terminates in a housing (I) contg. a hydraulic cylinder for operating the lower bell via the rod. The top of the tube used to operate the upper bell terminates in a casing which surrounds (I) and a second hydraulic cylinder is used to raise and lower the casing. Simple construction, giving a 100% seal against throat gas and eliminating the need for a stuffing box.
