In addition to the conventional tests, teh weight of the specimen (12) is measured and compared with given values. The area, thickness and weight are measured together. A balance is used which has a weight compensating device (18) which is controlled by a digital-analogue converter connected to a forward-reverse counter. A position detector (17) is connected via a controller to a control line of the counter. A pulse generator is connected to a counting input of the counter and a counting input of another resettable pulse counter connected to a decoder circuit.
