A process for the recovery of p - xylene, ethyl benzene and o - the xylene from their mixtures with m - xylene

A mixture of o-, m-, p-xylene and ethylbenzene is contact with a bed of crystalline aluminosilicate adsorbent in a first adsorption zone (1) to selectively retain p-xylene and ethylbenzene on the adsorbent. At least part of the non-retained components of the mixture contg. m- and o-xylene is isomerised to give =1 of ethylbenzene and p-xylene. o-Xylene is recovered from the isomerisation effluent stream and a portion of the latter recycled to (1). At least part of the selectively retained p-xylene and ethylbenzene is contacted in a second adsorption zone with a bed of crystalline aluminosilicate to selectively retain one of the retained p-xylene and ethylbenzene isomers and recover enriched p-xylene and ethylbenzene streams.
