Fine wire threads are embedded in a thermoplastic film for laminated glass manufacture by a device imparting to the wires the prearranged patterns of straight, curved or waved lines immediately before application in a tensionless condition to the plastic layer, and comprising basically for each wire, two rings turning on the plastic surface separated by two spacers, one being a wire guide, and a roller revolving eccentrically to the two rings, beneath which the wire passes to be pressed into the film. For curved and waved lines the rings have axial projections sloping outwards to a rounded nose, the radial teeth of the pressure roller engaging with these, forming the pattern and pressing the wire into the plastic surface simultaneously. A wide range of patterns is covered by a variety of alternative designs using pattern grids with toothed pressure rollers or pairs of guide rings turning in mutually inclined planes.
