The detector for measuring bit error rate and burst dropout rate in TDMA satellite communications systems, has an additional time frame for access to a given partial bit train in the incoming flow of bits belonging to the measuring burst. This time frame is additional to the frames for determining bit error and burst drop-out rates described in the main patent. This additional frame allows detailed interferences to be drawn about the origins of errors and failures, i.e. it allows the faulty equipment or area to be localised. Preferably the time frame consists of a shift register, controlled by scanning pulse trains, storing the input bit flow partial train.
