Wear resistant metal layer for casting bands - is applied to the thermal insulating coating on the casting band in continuous casting machines

A metal casting band (esp. of steel) for use in continuous casting machines has a thermally insulating layer on the side turned towards the cast bar coated with a 30-500 (50-200)mu layer of at least one wear resistant layer of metal(s) whose m.pt. in degrees K is =0.7 times the m.pt. in degrees K of the metal being cast. The metal which may be Mo, Fe, Ni, Ti, Cu or alloy of these may be applied to the thermal insulating layer by flame or plasma spraying or by electroplating. The metal coating is more resistant than the refractory, to wear occasioned by relative movement between the cast bar and the casting bands.
