A tank for liq. gases is pref. designed as floating body. It comprises reinforced or pre-stressed concrete, with cold-steel reinforcement, and lined with vapour-impermeable layer e.g. epoxy resin, which is in turn coated with a heat-insulating layer e.g. closed-cell polyurethane foam. The tank construction is resistant to abrupt thermal stresses as they arise e.g. when the tank is being filled with extremely cold liq. gases, or when being emptied. The layers do not tend to delaminate.
