Pipes such as (10) are bolted to either end of a connector which is made in two parts (15) secured together by a cylindrical vee clamp (21) which is designed to release connector parts under a predetermined tensile load. A central body in the connector forces the flowing medium to flow around its periphery through a cylindrical passage closable by cylindrical piston, should the connection fail, in order to prevent loss of fluid. The pistons are caused to move to close the pipes by means of pneumatic control pressure applied through ports by an external pressure source.
