In a furnace which is internally lined at least in parts with a castable refractory material, the lining is anchored on perforated tubes embedded in it. The tubes are welded to supports attached to the inner surface of the furnace wall. The ability of steam to escape from inside the lining during the initial drying-out period reduces the amount of spalling during this period.
