Appts. for picking out tablets which in their standard forms have a circular section in relation to at least one axis, particularly prior to coating tablets with e.g. sugar, for pharmaceutical or confectionery purposes, comprising (i) two mutually parallel threaded spindles with the same threat pitch and driven in the same direction at the same angular velocity in such a way that the crests of their threads lie opposite to each other and (ii) separate collecting devices for the tablets ejected at different positions from the threaded spindles. Enables defective tablets, e.g. with indentations or protuberances, to be separated from the feed to the table-coating equipment entirely automatically instead of by the hand sorting method normally used in conjunction with visual inspection.
