The light beam from the light source (Q) which runs between the object under observation and the observer passes through the globe shell inside the globe by way of the inspection openings or transparent inspection points. Picture elements and lettering which are irradiated by the light source inside or outside the globe are made visible from outside to the naked eye in their natural size or by means of an eyepiece in enlargement. The transparent material for the globe means that the inspection openings are formed by small circular recesses in the map film applied to the globe shell.
