Castings, esp. cast mountings, fittings or armatures possessing a relatively thin-walled central portion while each of the two end sections has a flange appreciably thicker than the thin wall in the central portion, the process using a metal mould. An ingate is used on the sides of both flanges which are arranged vertically and a riser is located on the top of each flange, the cast material being simultaneously poured through both ingates into the metal (chilled) mould. Both ingates are pref. directed radially into the mould cavities forming the two end flanges on the casting; alternatively, ingates may be located on both sides of each flange. Prodn. of sound castings, free from hot-tears, unsoundness and other foundry defects.
