Roller-mounted pile raising machine for heavily soiled carpets - thoroughly loosens dirt and pile prior to standard shampooing

The pile raising machine comprises one or more rows of stiff, (steel) wire brushes (2, 3) in which the individual bristles (12) are resiliently mounted to run across the direction of movement. The machine is moved over the dry carpet against the pile so that the bristles penetrate down to the backing material thereby completely loosening up the pile to expose the dirt particles which are then removed by suction before the normal shampooing process is carried out. The suction means can be incorporated together with the normal electric motor in this machine. The top of the machine housing or brush support (1) is adapted to receive weights (9) so that the penetrating depth of the bristles can be altered by adjusting the weights on top. Castors (7) can be provided at the end of the housing remote from the brushes to facilitate movement over the carpet.
