Electrolyte for producing bright copper electroplates - contg. brightener formed by condensing diphenylcarbazide and polyethylene imine

An electrolyte for producing bright Cu electroplate contains a Schiff base type brightener (0.03-0.3 g/1) made by condensing diphenylcarbazide with polyethyleneimine of average M.W. 500-5000, having the formula where R is a phenylhydrazyl gp. and n is 10-150. The brightener can be used in cyanide, pyrophosphate or acid copper electrolytes. The brightener gives the reqd. brightness without other additions in the absence of colloids and can be used in all baths with a wide range of copper ion concn. e.g. 0.05-2 moles/1.
