System for comminution of tyres - has liquid nitrogen dip tank to freeze tyres to allow comminution and subsequent sorting

A system to comminute tyres etc, has a trough (2) filled with liquid nitrogen (3) through which the tyres (D) are passed to become deep frozen. The trough (2) has an associated transportation device (5) by means of which the tyres (D) are supported during passage through the liquid nitrogen (3) in the trough (2). Once the tyres (D) are frozen they may be taken into the comminuting device (10) where they are milled, broken up or pulverised. The comminuted product is then magnetically sorted to remove any armouring cables etc. The support device is a conveyor to which the tyres may be attached by chains.
