A cooling device partic. for use in deep freeze cabinets or refrigerators whose interiors are held at a specific working level consists of a cold reservoir (5) which maintains the low operating temperature and contains the coolant whose melting point is below the operating temperature. The coolant is an entectic mixture of sodium chloride and water of melting point -21.2 deg.C and of salt content 21.5 wt. %. In general the coolant may have a melting point between -18 deg.C and -40 deg.C.
