Scanning stream profiles in vacuum systems, esp. particle accelerator - with spiral-shaped wire rotatable from outside system

A spiral-shaped tungsten wire (1) is arranged inside a rotatable cylinder (A) in the vacuum system of a particle accelerator, both angled ends (47) of the wire being fastened to shaft sections (17) from which it s insulated. Both shaft sections (17) are based in bearings (29) in a housing (11) one of the sections (17) being connected through a shaft (5) to a drive mechanism. Outside the cylinder the shaft section drives a cogged shaft (10) through a set of gears (6, 7) so as to drive the second shaft section through another set of gears. Current is tapped from the wire through a sliding contact at the end projecting through an insulating piece in the second shaft section.
