The engine fan has blades which are adjustable to vary the flow of cooling air in accordance with the cooling water temperature. Each blade (1c) has a guide element (22) attached to its lower end which terminates in a guide stub (11) abutting on a central sleeve on the fan driving shaft. A thermostat which may be in the engine cooling water streams or in the stream of air leaving the radiator displaces the shaft sleeve. The guide elements have sockets which fit round a fixed shaft (23) and when the sleeve is displaced it moves the guide stubs (11) so that the guide elements (22) and with them the blades, pivot about the fixed shaft.
