Iron polysulphate soln. for treating pulp waste - prepd. by oxidising ferrous sulphate soln. in presence of sulphuric acid

FeSO4 soln. (I) is mixed with 0.5 mole H2SO4 and oxidised to produce iron polysulphate. In an example (I) contg. Fe 162.61 and total H2SO4 383.2g/l 2.51 was aerated for 17 hr. with addn. of 2.5g Na2NO2/hr as catalyst to obtain in a brown viscous soln. contg. Fe3+ 162.61 and deficient H2SO4 40g/l. It can be used for pulp waste at 1000ppm and pH 9.0 whereas at 1500 ppm and pH 10.1 with Fe2(SO4)3.
