Then a lever (24) attached to one arm (5) is pushed down, and teeth on the lever engage a toothed cylinder (25) which rotates a split spindle (11) passing through jaws (13, 14) with springs behind them, so that the first portion (12) of the spindle rotates the jaws and twists the wires together. The jaws are then rotated again by retracting the lever (24) and pushing it down again. The main jaws (2, 3) do not rotate during the retraction, since the front part of the spindle (12) is locked by the spring loaded jaws (13, 14).
