The engine has a cylindrical housing with a coaxial rotary shaft, passing sealed through a cover at one end. The ring space contains a rotary piston, sealed relative to housing and shaft, to transmit a torque onto the shaft. A piston is similarly positioned in the housing, and transmits a reaction momentum onto the cylinder. The rotary piston (8) is connected to the shaft (4) and the piston (10), connected to the housing (2), are pulled apart. There is an intermediate ring-shaped element (12), which is revolvable relative to housing and shaft. The element carries rotary pistons (12a, b), working in conjunction with the piston and the rotary piston (8), to form spaces of variable volume. The pressure medium is fed into and out of these spaces.
