The heat insulating plate (5) is provided with openings to correspond with the inlet (6) and exhaust valve ports (7) and heat insulated against the cylinder head by reason of air gaps (8) between the plate and the cylinder head (1). The plate extends across the entire cylinder and is sealed by the head gasket (9). In order to give the incoming air turbulence, the plate is provided with an insert containing a spiral guide vane (11). The piston is also provided with a combustion chamber whose edges (15) are covered with a heat resisting poor conducting material.
