The radar beams are directed along the flight path and at right angles to it, and the velocity calculated by the Doppler shift of the reflected beams. However, due to the different reflective properties of land and water, a compensation is required in the calculations of some two or three percent. The equipment provides a signal to the computing equipment so that automatic compensation is effected. An antenna system consists of three sets of slot type elements, one for transmitting (S) one for receiving (E) and one for thermal microwave detection (R). This latter element feeds a radio meter network comprising a switched amplifier a mixer, an intermediate frequency stage and a switched detector. The output is fed to the computing network in the radar system.
