In its basic form the unit consists of a small plastic base plate through which contacts are fixed, protruding on one side to form terminals to which the electronic component (9) may be soldered. Some of these terminals can accommodate two soldered joints and some only one, so that components can be connected in series. Below these another set of components, typically small wound cores can be mounted, which are protected by a plastic cover (2). Another more developed form has units built up laterally into large units using locating lugs and sockets.
