Diesel engine with two stage turbo charger - in which each stage has an outlet gas turbine and a turbo charger

The diesel engine is charged with two chargers mounted in series. The outlet gas turbines of the chargers are so arranged that the outlet opening of the housing of one turbine is near to and co-axial with the inlet opening in the housing of the other turbine. Both openings are connected by an expansion or contraction joint in the form of one convolution of a bellows. The distance between the two flanges of the openings is kept as small as the design of the compensator allows. The axial dimension of the compensator is slightly smaller than the distance between the flanges so that the compensator must be stretched during mounting.
