Car door window raiser arm with gear drive is divided into two sections held in pre-set relationship until a set load is exceeded, thus causing the sections to move relative to one another. The sections are held in their pre-set relationship by a spring. One section has a detent which locks onto a rack when the arm sections move in relation to one another. The detent should be capable of adjusting along the arm and coupled to the other section to control this after the relative movement. The detent can take the form of a pivotal pawl, in which case the rack should be a bow design.
