A cleaning compsn. comprises particulate strong bases which are coated with resins which are soluble in aqs. or aqs.-alcoholic media, or with low-melting, non-irritant material pref. having a m.pt. of 40-90 degrees C or with cellulose derivs. or with swelling/thickening agents and, opt. dispersed Al powder. The compsn. is used esp. to clear siphons or drains. The coated particles prevents damage to the skin due to escape of powder or spillage from a container.
