Type selector appts. for electric typewriter has keys (1) each connected, on being depressed, to move a slide (4) having a transverse extension positioned to engage one of a number of selector rails (11) thereby to effect positioning and printing movements of a printing head. The slide is returned into a withdrawn position by a spring consequent on a one-revolution coupling (15) driving a vane (10) to engage one end of the slide and tilt it out of engagement with a latch arrangement (6, 8). The invention avoids the need for an intermediate member between the key and the slide. For repeat impression the slide is held clear of the vane.
