The lamp to give background lighting in a room in which television is being watched, is mounted behind the television set, and has an elongated base with a lamp bulb (11) each end projecting outwards and with a push button switch in the middle. The flat base can be adhesively attached to the rear of the set, or has elastic bands extending upwards and outwards from each corner, each carrying a hook to engage slots (7) on the rear panel of the T.V. set. The base is constructed so that access to the interior to which the supply connections are made cannot be made without a suitable tool, and a slot is included to clear the leads at the point where they emerge.
