Electromagnetic recording and playback system - using tape with bilateral magnetic coating for multitrack acoustic and optical signals

An electromagnetic recording and playback system for acoustic and/or optical signals for use in vidoe cassette recorders utilizes the carrier fully and requires no cathode ray tube. The recordings are effected on both sides of magnetic tapes or of films with a magnetic coating. The preferred tape consists of a central insulating foil (7) with a nonmagnetic layer (8) and a magnetizable layer (9) on both sides. Magnetic heads and erasing heads are arranged on both sides to serve separate tracks. A frosted glass screen, activated by radioactive light, can replace the conventional cathode ray tube.
